Think Pharmacy First
Think Pharmacy First
Most pharmacies in England are now providing the Pharmacy First service.
This free NHS service allows you to get quick access to healthcare advice for the following seven conditions:
  • Earache (aged 1 to 17 years)
  • Impetigo (aged 1 year and over)
  • Infected insect bites (aged 1 year and over)
  • Shingles (aged 18 years and over)
  • Sinusitis (aged 12 years and over)
  • Sore throats (aged 5 years and over)
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women (aged 16 to 64 years)
If you have symptoms that suggest you may have one of these conditions, you can walk into a pharmacy and be offered a consultation with a pharmacist in a private consultation room.
The pharmacist will provide advice and, if clinically necessary, a prescription medicine to treat the condition (NHS prescription charges apply if you normally pay for medicines supplied on prescription).
Think Pharmacy First!
Introducing – the NHS service for patients to get help from pharmacies with some common minor conditions.
Pharmacy First makes it simpler for everyone to get healthcare advice and treatment more quickly, without needing a GP appointment.
Pharmacy First allows you to get healthcare advice and treatment directly from a pharmacy without needing a GP appointment.
You can access Pharmacy First by walking into or contacting a pharmacy, or your GP surgery or an NHS 111 may electronically refer you to the service, giving you faster access to healthcare advice and treatment.
Consultations with the pharmacists are private and information on the consultation and any advice or treatment you receive will be added to your GP record.
Pharmacy First is here to help you get fast, effective care. Think Pharmacy First.
Pharmacy First is the NHS service for patients to get help from pharmacies with some common minor conditions, making it simpler for everyone to get healthcare advice and treatment more quickly.
Expanding on work they have already been doing, pharmacists can now supply an NHS medicine, if clinically appropriate, for: sinusitis, sore throat, ear infection in children, insect bites, impetigo, shingles, and uncomplicated UTIs in women.
Your community pharmacies can be your first point of contact for your healthcare needs, particularly for the treatment of the listed seven minor conditions.
